I hang ten 8.5 X 11 pieces of paper on the wall or mirrors of the cycling room...and I use a big,  fat , bold marker.  After the warm up...I start the class loop.  I go first to let the class know what to do.  On the first piece of paper I write the first "chosen" cycling move...I'm the teacher and I've chosen "jogs"...and we do jogs for 1:00 or the time frame of your choice.  Next a student...usually the front row chooses...and chooses standing climbs...I write "standing climb" on paper #2...and on and on

Here is an example of how our routine would look so far.......

  • 1:00 jogs
  • 1:00 standing climb

Keep getting suggestions from students and adding it to the loop...Ten is usually the max you can add before you run out of time.

This is simply a regular loop but instead of the teacher always calling the shots...the students get to add a little something to the class....My students love this!  I say while we're working, "Mary(or whoever...) you're next so start to think of your favorite cycling move that you'd like to add to our loop"

This is fun...different and takes NO prep time.  Once again I'd use fast dance music...i like to keep it upbeat!  Let me know if you have any questions.  caroline
